Nathan Mollett, Head of Asset Finance at United Trust Bank, has successfully completed the Marathon des Sables (MDS) Legendary, described as the ‘toughest footrace on Earth,’ and has raised over £14,500 for two worthy charities.
The grueling multi-stage ultramarathon saw Mollett race for 250km, the equivalent of six marathons, over six days from Sunday 14th April to Saturday 20th April, through southern Morocco’s Sahara Desert, enduring blistering temperatures of 40 to 50 degrees centigrade.
Nathan completed the race in 42 hours and 8 minutes, running in aid of two deserving charities – the South East Cancer Help Centre and Wings for Life, a charity which funds research into cures for spinal cord injuries.
Upon completing the race, Nathan Mollett commented: “Running the Marathon des Sables was an amazing experience – and a great privilege – but definitely a once in a lifetime challenge. The course was extraordinarily demanding, sometimes almost unbearably so because of the heat – particularly on the longest day – but raising money for two charities close to my heart made every step worth it.
It wasn’t just about finishing the race, it was also about helping others. A massive thank you goes to everyone who supported me and also my fellow runners. I certainly couldn’t have done it without you!”
