Over the last few years, United Trust Bank has developed its Asset Finance Underwriting team with a focus on building stronger relationships with brokers and encouraging direct contact with our underwriters, many of whom have specialist knowledge and experience of particular asset types and their markets.

What makes a solid deal?
I find a good write up from a broker so helpful, as it can make a deal that looks weak on the face of it much stronger when you have the full picture. Often it can then just be a quick phone call to turn what might have been a decline into a deal we can get over the line.
What do you enjoy most about funding agricultural assets?
I really like the fact that farmers and agriculture are the backbone of the economy. Beyond its fundamental role in feeding us, agriculture contributes to economic development, job creation and global trade. Also, Ag brokers tend to be straightforward and direct, which I like.
What’s your turnaround time on an Ag deal?
Our SLA is a same day turnaround for proposals up to £150k and two days for proposals up to £500k.
What does UTB do that can really help a broker secure a deal?
Aside from being able to offer truly bespoke terms, I would say our flexibility on balloons and not having an aged asset policy.

• First and foremost, give us a good write up containing all the information and background you know about the customer.
• Secondly, present all the financials up-front when the deal
size dictates.
• Finally, tell us if the customer is potentially looking for more assets in the near future, so we can underwrite it and give a steer on whether we can assist them on that one too.
