Technical Accountant (Tax) | Finance

Job description
This is a hybrid role – 3 days in the office (City of London location) and 2 days working from home.
Role Purpose:
To be the Finance team lead on tax related matters and support the Financial Control team on technical accounting and year end reporting.
Responsibilities:
- Manage all tax related matters including: Annual Corporation Tax returns / Quarterly VAT returns / R&D claims / Senior Accounting Officer notification
- Maintain UTB’s Tax Policy, Tax Strategy and Tax Risk Register and their annual review cycles
- Prepare responses to any HMRC queries or reviews
- Be UTB’s relationship manager with external tax advisors
- Contribute to the preparation of accounting reviews, analysis and memos for management including the Financial Review Committee, Audit Committee, Management Committee and Board
- Assist Head of Financial Control and Finance Manager with the production of the annual statutory accounts
- Monitor changes in tax legislation or accounting standards and aid impact assessments for UTB
- Support business growth through review of tax and accounting implications from new products
- Monitor controls within Financial Control processes, including periodic testing, suggested improvements and highlighting where risks may lie or have changed
- Responding to any related internal or external audit queries
- Support Finance team with process segregation where necessary e.g. Access Expense Admin role
Skills and Experience sought:
- Qualified accountant minimum two years’ post qualified experience
- Relevant tax related work experience (preferable within Financial Services)
- Highly organised and methodical with perseverance to see tasks through to completion
- Ability to prioritise a number of different tasks at once
- High attention to detail and for spotting errors and discrepancies
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Be a self-starter working both independently and as part of the team
